Before I started working on @School initiative, until 2019, I worked for New York Health and Hospital Corporation, especially the last 4 years as a senior technology executive, where I managed a very large IT department and several complex projects.
One day in 2013, I was very late for work. Usually my bus would take me directly downtown. Because I was late I had to go to midtown and catch a train downtown. I was rushing to catch 2 & 3 train.
As I was going up the staircase, I saw an old Asian woman coming down with two bags, one in each hand. She was walking down the steps; as I was climbing up. As she was walking down,
she missed a step, started falling face down.
Through sheer coincidence, I could catch her neck in one hand and head with the other hand, almost like a football. I made her standup, and carried her bags down the steps. She looked at me, took her bags, and went on her way and I went back to work.
I always remembered that incident for the rest of my time at Health and Hospital and even now.
Life thrusts you the opportunity and ability to help others. It is our responsibility to recognize them, help as many people as possible while you can.
